FAQs

Where are lessons held?

Lessons are currently held on the campus of Trinity Lutheran Church and Preschool.

You do not have to be a student at Trinity Lutheran Preschool or a member of Trinity Lutheran Church to be a student at Keys to Praise.

Anaheim Hills, CA 92808

In June the studio will be moving to the Sycamore Canyon Plaza in Anaheim Hills.

Which type of lessons are suitable for my child?

Preschool Piano Prep offers a great start for 3-4-year-old beginner students. This program offers kids a great introduction to the piano and to music as a whole. Rhythm, technique, aural skills, and theory are all taught through fun and interactive activities and lessons.

Piano Explorers and Voice Explorers are 50-minute weekly group lessons designed for students who are new to piano/voice and want to try it out in a fun, low-pressure setting. Through games, activities, and guided instruction, students are introduced to rhythm, technique, and music reading while exploring the fun of making music with friends. It’s the perfect first step for curious beginners before moving into private lessons.

Piano Foundations and Vocal Foundations are 30-minute weekly private lessons suitable for late beginner and early intermediate students studying either piano or voice. With curriculum that is tailor-suited to each student’s particular needs, learning style, and goals, students gain a strong musical foundation in piano and voice.

Piano Mastery and Vocal Mastery are 45-minute weekly private lessons and the ideal choice for older students who are intermediate to advanced in their knowledge and skill level. Building upon a strong foundation of technique and theory, students are able to dive deeper into piano and voice with a longer lesson.

Do I need an instrument at my home?

With the exception of students in Preschool Piano Prep, yes, piano students will need either an acoustic or electric piano or a keyboard with weighted keys. Students in Preschool Piano Prep are not required to have a piano as there is no practice requirement for that class. Voice students already own their own instrument!

How much practice is necessary?

Your student will get the most out of lessons when he or she is practicing at home. The most important thing is that practice happens as a routine - much like homework or brushing their teeth! Many families find practice before school is a great time to make sure practice happens every day.

Quality and consistency is better than quantity, but here are some suggested guidelines:

  • Young students and beginners: 10-15 minutes a day

  • Elementary students: 20 minutes a day

  • Intermediate students: 30-45 minutes a day

  • Advanced students: 45-60 minutes a day

Your child’s interest in piano or voice will probably not be 100% consistent; but to be successful, you will need to be consistent in your encouragement and commitment to music lessons. Your child may say, “I don’t want to practice” or “I want to quit,” etc. In most cases, simply acknowledge your child’s comments, and go on with your normal routine just as you would if your child said “I don’t want to brush my teeth.” Enthusiasm for something new is common, while endurance through the rough parts is rare - but always worth it!

What books do I need and where do I get them?

Books, materials and supplemental music are all included in the monthly tuition.

At Keys to Praise, we use different books and methods to suit different learning styles but some of the most commonly used series include Piano Adventures and Piano Safari as well as supplemental sheet music and lead sheets from various artists and composers. We’re constantly researching new materials to find the music that inspires each and every student!

What’s the youngest age student you will teach?

We teach students as young as 3 years old in Preschool Piano Prep. Learning music at a young age can be a wonderful head start for your child. We focus on strong foundations as well as creative play in all our lessons and provide developmentally appropriate lessons for preschool-aged students.

Do your students get opportunities to perform?

Yes! Getting to share music with others is one of the best parts of learning to play an instrument! Performance also increases students’ confidence and is a great motivator for practice.

Keys to Praise offers three recitals every year, a Winter Recital, summer ‘Ice Cream Recital,' and a Spring Recital, as well as two annual workshops that have a performance component.

Do you offer a free trial lesson?

Yes! We offer a complimentary trial lesson by appointment.

Your child will have a 30-minute lesson to experience music, explore the studio, and see if our programs are a good fit. Parents can ask questions and learn more about our approach, scheduling, and program options.

There’s no pressure and no obligation — just a chance to try a lesson and see if Keys to Praise is the right fit for your child.

Do you offer make-up lessons?

As a student of the Keys to Praise studio your tuition covers more than lessons each week. (See “Missed Lessons” on the Studio Policies page). Enrollment means being a member of the studio with all the additional benefits that provides. One of those benefits is a weekly spot set aside just for your child.

In the event of missing a lesson, parents are responsible to contact the teacher 24 hours in advance. In some cases (illness or lack of transportation, for example) an online lesson may replace an in-person lesson. If an online lesson is not indicated and if 24 hour notice is given, a make-up lesson may be arranged, but due to teacher scheduling constraints cannot be guaranteed. If a student cancels or no-shows to the make-up lesson, the lesson is forfeited. Lessons missed by a teacher will be rescheduled.

When the above options are not viable, we encourage students to continue practicing so they can return to their lesson the following week prepared to move ahead.

What does my tuition include?

Your investment goes beyond the weekly private lessons or group classes. When you enroll with Keys to Praise, your lesson slot is reserved for you and you alone. Tuition also encompasses a suite of enrichment experiencesincluding performance workshops, goal-planning sessions, and 3 annual recitals. These collective offerings are designed to supplement your student’s musical education providing a well-rounded, comprehensive journey.

Tuition includes time spent in preparation for each lesson or group class, researching and purchasing appropriate method books and supplemental music for each student, planning and preparing theory games/activities, teacher continued education to enhance lessons, maintenance of pianos, voice equipment, and the studio.

Do you accept charter school funds?

Yes! We’re an approved vendor with Sage Oak, Excel, and Suncoast Preparatory Academy charter schools. Families can use their educational funds for piano and voice lessons. If you don’t see your school listed, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to check with your school and begin the approval process.

What is Year-Round Enrollment?

Our lessons continue throughout the calendar year with planned breaks built into the schedule. This structure provides students with consistent instruction supporting steady musical growth, and provides parents with predictable tuition and a dependable weekly routine.

How can I pay my tuition?

For ease and convenience, tuition is paid through automatic debit or credit card withdrawal on the 1st of the month. This can be set up through the Parent Portal.
